Layzu Begum, a 52-year-old housewife, lives with her husband Mahabubur Islam in Kaikori, Balakandi village, located in the Omar Majid union within the Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram district. Layzu had no productive assets or cultivable land to support herself and her family.
However, Layzu was determined to change her circumstances. She applied for assistance through Noriba, and received BDT 4000 . She made the decision to invest the received amount in two goats, using some additional funds from her small savings. She then bought two young goats from the local market. Layzu recognised the opportunity to raise goats as a way to enhance her financial situation and create a stable source of income for her family.
The number of goats increased and she is now making income by selling goats. She dreams of growing a goat farm in a small scale in future. Layzu's wise investment not only enabled her to fulfil her family's basic needs, but also to save for the future.
